1. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can my friends/family members come to the trips as well? Is it only for foreign/exchange students?
Everybody can join the trips: your family members, your friends (whatever their nationality is) and whoever hears about the trips.
All the trip and visits will be in English language.

Do I need to have an ESNcard to go to the trips?
No the ESNcard is not required. But it is recommended, as  you get a discount with it and you can get more discount with ESN Tallinn other events and partners.

How can I get an ESNcard?
You can make your ESNcard in ESN Tallinn office every Tuesday between 18:00-20:00 (Raekoja plats 16) or in the office of ESN TalTech IC (TalTech U01-225, office hours updated weekly on FB page). You must bring a photo of you (25x30mm) and 12€ (the cost of the card) in cash (we do not accept bank card payments).
With the ESNcard you can get cheaper places to the trips + you get cheaper entrance fee to our parties + you get discounts with our partners. For more information check

Does my ESNcard work if I got it from another section than ESN Tallinn?
Yes, even if you got your ESNcard from another section or country, you can still use it to get the discount price of the trips.

Can I get the ESNcard after I pay for the trip?
Yes, you can pay for the trip with ESNcard discount and get your card afterwards. The most important is to have the ESNcard at the trip because we will ask you to show it at the beginning.

I cannot pay that much money now because my scholarship has not arrived yet. What can I do?
We can maybe find a way! Send us an email and we talk about it.

Can I change my trip number/dates I have registered to or paid for?
Yes you can, if there are available places on the trip you want to join. You can make the change from your account on our website. There is no charge to change.

Can I register to two trips of the same type (for example to two trips to Lapland)?
You cannot be in the main list of two trips of the same type. There are three types: Lapland, St. Petersburg and Around Estonia. For example, you cannot be in the main list of trip 1 and 2 to St. Petersburg at the same time.
But you can be in the main list of a trip (say to Lapland 1), and be in as many waiting lists as you want for that trip type (Lapland 2,3,4,…).

When can I register for trips to St. Petersburg and Lapland?

What does the waiting list of a trip mean? Is it a priority list?
The waiting list of a trip is not a priority list. The first person on the waiting list does not have priority over others, everyone is equal. Being on the waiting list of a trip means that when a place becomes available, we inform the people in that waiting list that a place becomes available and the first one to act gets the place.

Do I have to come to the travel meeting at ESN Tallinn movie night?
Travel meeting is for getting more information about ESN Tallinn trips. Also to meet us and the people going to the same trip with you and ask all the questions related to the trips. If you cannot come, the information of the website is  all you need. Otherwise drop us an email!

How can I pay for the trips?
There are two possibilities of payment for the trips: by cash by coming to the ESN Office (you will know the available times after you register to a trip), or by bank transfer (easiest way).
We do not accept bank card payments sorry.

Can I pay for all my trips in one bank transfer or should it be one bank transfer per trip?
You can pay for several trips in one bank transfer.

It is not easy for me to pay by bank transfer because I do not have a European bank account, how can I do it?
There are solutions to that:

  • ask a friend who has a European bank account to make the transfer for you and you give your friend cash money
  • you can exchange and send money using a service like TransferWise
  • you can give cash to the post office and tell them to send the money to our bank account

Do I need a passport to go to Russia or my identity card is enough to enter Russia?
Traveling to Russia is not as easy as traveling inside Europe. To go to Russia you cross a real frontier (you will see!). So you need your valid passportYour identity card is not enough to enter Russia. Contact your consulate or embassy if you need to make a passport.

Can I stay in Russia after the end of the trip?
Yes it is possible, you can join our group directly in Russia and then you continue your journey on your side.
Or, you come with us by bus, but you will have to cross the border by foot and we pick you up on Russian side.

Where and how much to exchange money to go to Russia?
Russian’s currency is the Ruble. Exchange some money in Estonia before the trip (like 100€) but most of it in Russia as the rate is better there. You can exchange money in Tallinn in banks, Tavid or some currency shops in Viru Keskus (compare the prices).

I do not have an ISIC card… Can I get one?
If you study in Tallinn, yes you can get one easily from SEB and Swedbank banks. They can provide you with an ISIC bank card. Check their website for more information (in English).

Do I need to bring bed-sheets and towel to the trips?
Bed-sheets and towels are provided during trips (St. Petersburg, Lapland and Around Estonia). But you must take a towel for Lapland for the last evening after sauna because we will not come back to the accommodation.

How is the weather in Lapland?

How is the weather in St. Petersburg?
The weather in St. Petersburg is basically the same as in Tallinn. Check on internet the exact local weather though.

Is there  a minimum number of people needed to make a trip happen?
The minimum number of people is 40.

Can my dog/animal come to the trip with me?
Although we like animals, we cannot accept them sorry. It is hard to manage for us and the consequences during the trip can greatly vary.

Is it possible to see Auroras (also called Northern lights) in Lapland?
Yes it is possible but we cannot guarantee it (obviously). If you want to keep an eye on this subject, we suggest these websites: and

What about Covid-19 rules and regulations?
For Covid-19 we follow the rules and regulations given by the government of Estonia (and for Lapland trip also the government of Finland). We need to be patient and flexible but we work with the best approach to make the trips happen safely.

2. Terms and conditions

The combination of travel services offered to you is a package within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2015/2302.

Therefore, you will benefit from all EU rights applying to packages. Marmot OÜ will be fully responsible for the proper performance of the package as a whole.
Additionally, as required by law, Marmot OÜ has/have protection in place to refund your payments and, where transport is included in the package, to ensure your repatriation in the event that it becomes/they become insolvent.

  • Travellers will receive all essential information about the package before concluding the package travel contract.
  • There is always at least one trader who is liable for the proper performance of all the travel services included in the contract.
  • Travellers are given an emergency telephone number or details of a contact point where they can get in touch with the organiser or the travel agent.
  • Travellers may transfer the package to another person, on reasonable notice and possibly subject to additional costs.
  • The price of the package may only be increased if specific costs rise (for instance, fuel prices) and if expressly provided for in the contract, and in any event not later than 20 days before the start of the package. If the price increase exceeds 8 % of the price of the package, the traveller may terminate the contract. If the organiser reserves the right to a price increase, the traveller has a right to a price reduction if there is a decrease in the relevant costs.
  • Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee and get a full refund of any payments if any of the essential elements of the package, other than the price, are changed significantly. If before the start of the package the trader responsible for the package cancels the package, travellers are entitled to a refund and compensation where appropriate.
  • Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee before the start of the package in the event of exceptional circumstances, for instance if there are serious security problems at the destination which are likely to affect the package.
  • Additionally, travellers may at any time before the start of the package terminate the contract in return for an appropriate and justifiable termination fee.
  • If, after the start of the package, significant elements of the package cannot be provided as agreed, suitable alternative arrangements will have to be offered to the traveller at no extra cost. Travellers may terminate the contract without paying any termination fee, where services are not performed in accordance with the contract and this substantially affects the performance of the package and the organiser fails to remedy the problem.
  • Travellers are also entitled to a price reduction and/or compensation for damages where the travel services are not performed or are improperly performed.
  • The organiser has to provide assistance if the traveller is in difficulty.
  • If the organiser or, in some Member States, the retailer becomes insolvent, payments will be refunded. If the organiser or, where applicable, the retailer becomes insolvent after the start of the package and if transport is included in the package, repatriation of the travellers is secured. Marmot OÜ has taken out insolvency protection with Gar-Bo Försäkring AB ( 516401–6668, Ringvägen 100, 118 60 Stockholm, SWEDEN, +46 10 221 88 00, Travellers may contact this entity or, where applicable, the competent authority (Tarbijakaitseamet, Estonian Consumer Protection Board, 70003247, Pronksi 12, 10117 TALLINN, ESTONIA) if services are denied because of Marmot OÜ insolvency.

1. General provisions

1.1 The Terms & Conditions are an integral part of a travel contract (hereinafter: contract) between the traveller and Marmot OÜ (hereinafter: Marmot) and shall take effect from the moment the traveller books a travel package through the website (hereinafter: site) or any other means of communication. By later paying the price of the package in part or in full, the traveller confirms that he/she has read and accepted the Terms & Conditions.

1.2 Marmot OÜ is a tour operator registered in Estonia with the registration code 12162222 and located at Madala 30-4, 10315 Tallinn, Estonia.

1.3 A traveller is a person making a reservation of a travel package. The traveller must be 18 years old at the date of departure. A traveller under 18 years old at the date of departure must provide the written consent of parents and be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for him/her during the trip. Travellers under 18 years old are not eligible to discounts.

1.4 Marmot undertakes to provide the traveller who pays the price of the travel package with the combination of travel services previously presented in the tour description on Marmot’s site, invoice / order confirmation or in a separate tour description.

1.5 Marmot shall confirm reservation with a confirmation email. A package tour is considered reserved once an invoice / order confirmation has been issued to the traveller.
A traveller can modify a reservation that has not been paid yet, in full or in part.

1.6 If a traveller make a reservation of a travel package that has been sold out, the booking will be placed on a waiting list. Marmot individually contacts travellers on waiting list to inform them if a place becomes available.

1.7 Upon entering into the travel contract, the traveller shall provide Marmot with his/her personal information that is relevant to the performance of the travel contract (please also see our Privacy Policy). Marmot is not liable for compensation of damages if the traveller has not fulfilled his/her obligation of communicating required information.

2. Prices & terms of payment

2.1 Price of the travel package includes services described in the tour description.

2.2 After the booking confirmation and issue of the invoice / order confirmation of the tour, the traveller shall pay the total travel price (or make a prepayment) before the payment deadline as specified by Marmot in its communications with the traveller.

2.3 If the traveller fails to pay the requested amount by the agreed deadline, the reservation for the package is considered withdrawn by the traveller and Marmot has the right to cancel the reservation without notice.

2.4 If a traveller does not use some of the services listed on the travel confirmation, it does not give the traveller the right to demand a reduction or redemption of the price of the package.

2.5 Once a reservation is made by the traveller, any discount or last minute offers made by Marmot do not affect the payable amount of the traveller nor gives him/her the right to right to demand a reduction or redemption of the price of the package.

3. Obligations, liability and rights of traveller

3.1 The traveller shall provide to Marmot all requested personal information which are necessary to perform the travel services. The traveller shall verify that the data provided is correct. In case the information provided was incorrect, the traveller immediately informs Marmot about any nonconformities. The traveller is liable for all expenses damages that could arise from inaccurate provided data.

3.2 The traveller shall ensure at his/her expense that he/she possesses all necessary valid travel documents that allow crossing borders and transiting countries that are being visited (passport, visa, vaccination, insurance, etc.). The traveller is liable for the existence of valid travel documents and travel insurance (travel disruption, health and luggage insurance). Outside the European Union, the ID card is not valid as an identity document. The traveller shall take with him/her a passport valid in accordance with the laws in force of the destination countries. The traveller shall have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the end of the journey.

3.3 The traveller is responsible for being on time at the places of departure of the journey and its activities. In case of being late, the travellers bears the responsibility and costs of missed journey, tour, visit, excursion, etc. Being late for departure is not subject to any reduction or redemption of the price of the package.

3.4 During the journey the traveller shall comply with the tour guide, the internal rules of accommodation, transportation providers and local authorities, as well as to monitor personal belongings, money, valuables and documents.

3.5 During the journey the traveller shall not abuse of alcoholic beverages and disturb fellow travellers with his/her behaviour otherwise the traveller may not be allowed on the journey or be removed from the journey, and in this case, travellers are not entitled to reimbursement of travel expenses.

3.6 The traveller shall follow the customs and immigration regulations taking into account that in case of violation the responsibility lies on the traveller.

3.7 During the journey and in the destination country the traveller shall follow the regulations established to guarantee the safety of the traveller, follow and respect the traditions and customs of the country and not to violate law.

3.8 The traveller shall ensure that he/she is not listed as persona non grata in the country of destination. If the traveller cannot enter the country of destination because he/she cannot cross the border for reasons related to the traveller, the traveller shall bear all costs of his/her repatriation and the price of the travel package will not be refunded.

3.9 The traveller shall reimburse all material damage to Marmot, its partners’ or third parties caused by his/her deliberate or negligent behaviour or failure to act on spot where the damage was done or within 10 days from the date of receipt of relevant invoice from Marmot.

3.10 If a traveller wants to return home before the end of the journey or prolong his/her stay, all additional costs incurred by Marmot shall be paid by the traveller.

3.11 The traveller shall pay for the additional services consumed at the destination country and not included in the package tour.

3.12 The traveller has the right to cancel the contract during the journey and interrupt the journey if Marmot violates the contract or the travel arrangements prove to be in some other way so incomplete that the traveller cannot reasonably be expected to continue the journey under such circumstances.

3.13 If the package tour was cancelled, the traveller has the right to get a full refund of the paid amount, or choose a replacement package tour with the same or equivalent price if available. If the replacement package is cheaper than the original one, Marmot shall return the price difference to the customer. If the replacement tour is more expensive than the original one and Marmot cannot offer it to the traveller at the same price, the traveller shall pay the price difference.

4. Obligations, liability and rights of Marmot

4.1 Marmot shall provide the traveller with the package tour as agreed in the contract.

4.2 The package tour chosen by the traveller must correspond to the description, except for circumstances beyond his control, such as weather conditions that differ from the average of many years, influential temporary or permanent political decisions and/or situations of the destination country.

4.3 Marmot shall provide all necessary assistance to the traveller in the event of accident during the journey, if falling victim to a crime or in case of any other event that might put the traveller’s life or health in danger. The assistance of Marmot consists in contacting and communicating with the local authorities and medical institutions or in providing the corresponding information and if required, arranging an anticipated repatriation. The traveller shall compensate Marmot for all expenses related to the assistance.

4.4 Marmot is not liable for any damage caused by insurmountable obstacles or other unforeseen circumstances that Marmot could not have avoided with careful operation. Such reasons could be war, natural disasters, infectious diseases, strikes, etc. (Force Majeure).

4.5 Marmot shall immediately notify the traveller of any significant change or cancellation of travel service.

4.6 Marmot is not liable for any damage arising from the negligence of the traveller and from the activities of non-contracted third parties whose actions cannot be foreseen or prevented.

4.7 Marmot has the right to make changes in the pricelist of services or extra activities offered.

4.8 If Marmot cannot adhere to the itinerary for circumstances beyond its control, it has the right to change accommodation provider, means of transport, change the schedule or rearrange the itinerary in other ways provided the quality and nature of the tour are not significantly affected thereby. The traveller must be notified of all changes as soon as possible.

4.9 Marmot has the right to make changes in excursion program if the excursion on the specific day is prevented by weather conditions, transportation problems or other circumstances beyond the control of Marmot and also has the right to make changes to any specific excursion program if due to unforeseen circumstances or for reasons beyond its control the excursion is not possible or safe in a planned manner.

4.10 Marmot has the right to cancel the contract if after the conclusion of the contract the possibilities to organize the tour in an agreed manner are considerably more difficult at or near the destination due to occurrences of war, natural disaster, strike or similar situation or if the journey cannot be organized for other unexpected reason without compromising travellers’ health and life. Marmot shall inform the traveller about rescinding the contract as soon as possible. If the contract is cancelled due to force majeure, the traveller has the right to reimbursement of travel expenses, from where reasonable compensation for the services provided or the services to be provided to end the journey, have been deducted. Marmot shall provide the traveller with equivalent transport back to the place of departure. If additional costs incur during the return journey, these costs shall be borne by Marmot and a traveller in equal shares. Other additional expenses arising from cancellation of the contract such as accommodation, meals, etc. shall be borne by the traveller. Marmot shall assist the traveller to find appropriate solutions and organizing the accommodation.

5. Withdrawal from travel contract and cancellation of travel reservation

5.1 Both parties can withdraw from the travel contract if the other party violates the contract.

5.2 A traveller has the right to cancel, without penalty, a travel contract already booked or entered into if he has not paid fully or in part, for the travel package.

5.3 After the traveller has paid the price of the travel package, the refund policy in case the traveller cancels his reservation is as follows:

  • 21 days before the departure, no refund is possible
  • 22 to 30 days before the departure, the traveller can get refund 50% of the paid amount
  • more than 30 days before the departure, the traveller can get refund 75% of the paid amount
  • In all above cases, the traveller may find another person to replace him/her instead. This new person must contact Marmot as soon as possible to proceed with the change, but this change is not guaranteed. If the new traveller successfully replaces the first one, they shall arrange the payment of the travel package between them.

5.4 Marmot refund policy applies to the amount that has been paid by the traveller to Marmot. Marmot does not refund amounts paid to third parties (for example the purchase of a visa).

5.5 Marmot has the right to cancel a travel package if the number of travellers is smaller than the number of participants as a precondition of the package. Marmot shall notify the traveller about the withdrawal as soon as possible.

6. Settlement of disputes

6.1 Marmot and the traveller shall settle disputes arising from interpretation of the Terms & Conditions and travel contract through negotiations.

6.2 Marmot and the traveller shall adopt all measures to solve disputes through negotiation. If the parties do not reach an agreement, the disputes shall be settled in the Consumer Protection Office or in the judicial procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Estonia.

1. Collection and processing of personal information

Marmot only collects personal information, that is specifically and voluntarily provided by visitors, users or travellers by various means of communication such as email, phone, site, paper, etc.
The information collected is typically but not exclusively: first/last name, date of birth, sex, nationality, email, phone number, your student status, your personal Estonian ID number, some information about your diet and/or allergies and passport data. Most of this information is collected when you join a trip, through your traveller’s account protected by a password you choose.
We collect this information for one main purpose which is to organize the best trip for you. This information is generally required to arrange transport, accommodation, customs, activities, etc. Some information may be used for our own statistics and to improve our services.
The information we collect is mainly stored in our customer information database and travellers can access their information through their traveller account’s profile. We retain this information as long as necessary to service your current request and any similar future requests, or until you request that we delete the information.
You have the right to access all the data we hold about you, and to demand the correction of inaccurate/misleading data or its deletion. Please send your inquiries to

2. Distribution of personal information

For organizing your trip, we need to disclose your personal information to third parties such as our suppliers, partners, contractors to ensure the good provision of our travel services. These third parties are for example: transporters, accommodation, guides, etc.
We may also disclose your information in order to comply with a legal obligations, or if Marmot is acquired by or acquires another legal entity.
Marmot does not sell, lease, rent or make otherwise available your information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

3. Cookies

Our site may use cookies. Cookies are small pieces of data stored in your web browser, that assist us in providing a more customised web site experience. Cookies are used for gathering information such as browser type and operating system, country of access, IP address, tracking the number of users, and understanding how you use the site.
